Disaster Risk Mangement

INTEGEMS contribute to disaster prevention, mitigation and preparedness, response, recovery and restoration, and vulnerability reduction based on risk management principles, to minimize loss of life and economic damages.

Several countries around the world have been severely affected by recurrent natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, landslides, of them, etc. Although it is impossible to avoid these disasters completely, the magnitude of these disasters and vulnerability of society to disasters can be minimized. INTEGEMS support the development and implementation of disaster risk reduction and disaster risk management strategies, plans, policies, programmes and projects and establishing effective forecasting and early warning systems, disaster risk management technologies, and information systems.

Our accumulated experiences in Climate Data and Information Management, Weather and Meteorological Information Management, Weather Forecasting Technologies, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, Natural Resources Management and Disaster Information Management Systems technologies enable us to develop reliable forecasting and early warning systems, which can credibly develop real-time hydro-meteorological flood analysis/forecasting systems, develop disaster risk management plans, organize and facilitate training courses for capacity development, and build various information systems on disaster risk reduction and disaster risk management. INTEGEMS has conducted multidisciplinary planning and policy making for disaster management from national to local levels in many urban and rural areas around Sierra Leone to helping building safer communities against disasters.

Our key interventions in this field focus on:
