CEMMATS Group Ltd and Integrated Geo-information and Environmental Management Services were commissioned by Sierra Rutile Limited (SRL) to undertake to do a comprehensive database/inventory and a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping of all disturbed lands in the SRL concession area during SRL mining activities, and put in place a system where by the Environment, Health & Safety and Community Affairs Department can be able to update such information on a regular basis. Specifically, the RFP expected the Consultants to undertake the following tasks:

  • Do an inventory of all land disturbance activities in the SRL concession and the different types of disturbed lands.
  • Do a comprehensive GIS mapping of all types of disturbed lands and produce in different layers as well as a composite maps
  • Set up a GIS database system for SRL EHS Department.
  • Train six senior EHS staff on the use and update of GIS database.
  • Capture any other relevant data to put in to GIS format.

Description of actual services provided by staff within the assignment:

  • GIS Needs Assessment for the EHS Department
  • Preliminary Data Survey
  • Preparation of a GIS Needs Assessment and Requirements Report for the EHS Department
  • Presentation of the findings from the GIS Needs Assessment and Requirements Report
  • Review and survey of land disturbance activities, types and data
  • Preparation of land disturbance data and information
  • Designing and developing the Land Disturbance Inventory/Database
  • Upload, population and QA/QC of the Inventory/Database
  • Reporting and Delivery of the Inventory/Database
  • Topographic survey and GPS mapping of all land disturbance activities and types
  • Post-field data processing and desktop mapping of land disturbance activities and types
  • Post-mapping data analysis and modelling
  • logical and physical designing of ArcGIS geodatabases
  • Development and deployment of ArcGIS geodatabases
  • Upload, population and QA/QC of the ArcGIS geodatabases
  • Reporting and delivery of the ArcGIS geodatabases
  • Training of six staff on the use and update of GIS database and ArcGIS for Desktop
